Devotees clash, 1 dead

One person was killed and several others injured in a clash between two groups of devotees at Hammulal temple near Anantpur Road in the town on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Gopinath Nayak (50) of Bijapur.

According to the police, hundreds of devotees from different places were attending a special pooja at the temple. Sources said that verbal clashes broke out between two groups of devotees from Satara (Maharashtra) and Bijapur while cooking food near the temple. It took a violent turn with both the groups starting to  pelt stones at each other. Later, they clashed with sticks and other weapons.

However, before the police rushed to the spot, the those involved in the clash, including the injured disappeared from the scene.
