Following official clarifications from the Ministry of External Affairs, police arrested French diplomat Pascal Mazurier, 39, who was accused of raping his three-year-old daughter.

He was later produced before a magistrate and was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.

After the Ministry’s clarifications to city police’s queries on the diplomat’s immunity reached late Monday night, a team from High Grounds police station reached Mazurier’s residence near the French Consulate in Vasanthnagar at 6 am on Tuesday and took him into custody. From there, he was taken to Bowring Hospital for medical tests.

City Police Commissioner B G Jyothiprakash Mirji told reporters that Mazurier was arrested in the morning on rape charges. “After we received MEA’s clarifications on his diplomatic immunity late in the night, I directed officers to arrest him,” he said.

Doctors took his blood samples for DNA tests at the Forensic Science Laboratory. Earlier, after subjecting the victim to tests, it was confirmed that he had raped his daughter repeatedly. Police are yet to receive the report and those from FSL on tests conducted on the clothes worn by him and the victim. After 8th ACMM Magistrate Nagalingana Gowda remanded him in judicial custody for 14 days, he was shifted to Parappana Agrahara prison.
