BANGALORE : Despite being fully ready for operations, the second unit of Bellary Thermal Power Station (BTPS) has been lying idle for the last three months — thanks to the delay caused by the Union Government in providing coal linkage to the 500 MW capacity unit.

“We have been requesting the Centre to allot coal linkage for the second unit, but so far nothing has happened,” Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje told reporters here on Tuesday.

The state government had planned to inaugurate the unit in the last week of February, but the delay in getting coal linkage forced it to postpone the inauguration, the Minister added.

Karandlaje said she would go to Delhi on Thursday and request Union Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal as a last ditch effort.
