Ryots await Supreme Court order with bated breath

Hoteliers feel Dasara business will be affected

The farmers here  are scared that the Supreme Court order to follow the CRA and CMC directions to release water to Tamil Nadu  will affect them and force them to resume the stir.

Tamil Nadu has filed a fresh petition seeking 48 tmc ft of water and  accusing Karnataka of violating the distress formula. The petition  will come up for hearing before the Supreme Court on Friday

General secretary of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha Nanjunde Gowda said that more than five tmc ft of water had flowed to Tamil Nadu following heavy rains in the Cauvery achukat for more than a week.

He claimed that the inflow at Biligundalu gauging station in Karnataka border recorded an inflow of 17,000 cusecs on Tuesday and 10,000 cusecs on Wednesday into Mettur dam. He admitted that the farmers are jittery as the petition will come up before the Apex Court.

Meanwhile, with poor turnout at all  Dasara events, the hotel industry is also worried as it awaits the hearing. The hotel managements hope that business would pick up in the last two days of Dasara if the SC does not direct the state to release

water.Hotel Owners Association president Rajendra said that they are praying that the case is adjourned on Friday. “This would be a great relief to the hotel industry as Dasara celebrations failed to draw crowds in the last three days. We will do better this weekend and on the last two days of the Navarathri as tourists from Kerala and Bangalore have started arriving,” he added.
