In the third incident of children falling ill after drinking milk supplied by the State government, under the Ksheerabhagya scheme, more than 20 students at the government primary school in Togaranahalli were admitted to the taluk hospital at Alur.

On Monday, 14 students at Kusugal in Hubli fell ill soon after drinking the 150 ml flavoured milk supplied to about 1 crore school and anganwadi children across the State.

At the end of August, 14 students in Gulbarga had also fallen ill after drinking milk that was prepared at a neighbouring school.

The teachers at Togaranahalli said the students started vomiting soon after drinking the milk. Head master Mohan shifted the students to the taluk hospital. They are recoving there. Taluk Health Officer Thimmiah, District Surveillance Officer Dr Rajagopal  and BEO Pushpalatha rushed to the hospital.

They have also sent the milk for testing. The health officials suspect that unhygienic vessels used for boiling the milk may be the reason behind the children’s illness.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka Milk Federation, in an official statement, said that children at Hubli did not vomit because of the milk.

“On detailed information provided by our officials who called upon the children, it could be candidly said that vomiting by a child was not due to the quality of milk but due to other reasons, and 300 children had consumed the same milk.”
