JD(S) yet to invite BJP leaders for canvassing

Having extended ‘tacit’ support to the Janata Dal (Secular), senior BJP leaders are ready to campaign for JD(S) candidates in the byelections to the Lok Sabha constituencies if they receive invitation from state JD(S) president H D Kumaraswamy.

“So far, we have not received any communication from JD(S) leaders for campaigning. We have no objection to do campaign in two Lok Sabha constituencies. Already, instructions have been given to local BJP workers to work for the JD(S),” state BJP president Prahlad Joshi told Express.

Sources close to Joshi said, as per directions from Delhi leaders, the party has already deputed former deputy chief minister and a vokkaliga leader R Ashok to campaign for JD(S) candidates in both Bangalore Rural and Mandya constituencies.

Leaders like former chief minister Jagadish Shettar and national BJP general secretary H N Ananthkumar are also ready to campaign for the JD(S) if they get a green signal from Kumaraswamy, sources said.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that Kumaraswamy has been treading his steps carefully on inviting BJP leaders openly for canvassing. And this is why he has not openly talked about the alliance with the BJP, a leader said.
