The Third All India Tiger Estimation will be held in Karnataka from December 16 to 23 to throw light on the number of big cats in the state. The census will be conducted with the help of 230 volunteers in Bandipur.

A two-day training session will be organised for the volunteers on basic understanding and concept, techniques and design, data collection procedure and planning.

Bandipur National Park DCF Kantharaju said the survey will be held in 13 zones in Bandipur. The volunteers in 115 beats will cover four kilometres per day and stay at the anti-poaching camps along with the Forest Department staff.

He said the tiger census that is held once in four years will be held regularly in the coming years with camera trapping in Bandipur.

Kantharaju said the tiger captured near N Beggur which mauled three people to death is not a man eater. The Mysore Zoo officials plan to keep the tiger for breeding, he said.
