Two boys died while a girl survived in a suicide attempt at Malpe near here on Sunday morning.

All three were PU students of Composite PU College, Ramanagaram near Bangalore.  The deceased are Madhu and Hemanth, and the girl has been identified as Soumya alias Renuka.

According to the police, Hemanth and Soumya were in love but Soumya’s family did not approve of the relationship. The couple eloped on January 22 and Laxman Kumar, Soumya’s father, lodged a complaint in this regard. Hemanth’s friend Madhu also accompanied the couple. They reached Udupi on Saturday and took a room at a lodge in Malpe. In the evening the three went for a walk to a nearby beach. Later, Hemanth and Soumya ate biriyani mixed with poison. Fearing the consequences, Madhu also ate the biriyani. On Sunday morning, passersby noticed them lying near the beach and rushed them to a hospital. While Madhu was found dead, Hemanth died en route to the hospital. Soumya’s condition is said to be improving. Malpe police have registered a case.
