Basavaraj Yaragatti, an ITBP soldier who died in a helicopter crash during rescue operations in Uttarakhand, was laid to rest at his village Jagapur in Gadag district on Wednesday.
Family members and villagers who were waiting for Basavaraj’s body for the last nine days were inconsolable when it was brought to the village. The body was cremated amidst official honours. Earlier in the day, District Minister H K Patil visited Basavaraj’s family members and handed over a cheque of Rs 10 lakh as solatium from the government.
