Rumours about Kannada actress Shruthi’s alleged suicide attempt spread like wildfire after she was admitted to a private hospital in Basaveshwara Nagar on Friday. However, Shruthi and her husband Chandrachud clarified that she had not attempted suicide and that she had taken ill due to food poisoning.

Around afternoon, Shruthi was taken to Punya Hospital in Basaveshwaranagar where doctors advised her to get admitted as she was vomiting repeatedly.

This sparked off rumours that she had tried to end her life by consuming poison. After some local TV channels aired the report, Kamakshipalya police rushed to the hospital and spoke to her.

Police said Shruthi is fine and had not attempted suicide. “She informed us that three days ago she had gone to Shirdi and had food at a dhaba. Since then, she had not been keeping well and hence, she came to the hospital,” police said.

After her divorce from film director S Mahendar, Shruthi had recently married Chandrachud, a journalist. But, soon after, a controversy broke out after Chandrachud’s wife Manjula approached the family court to declare the marriage between Shruthi and Chandrachud as null and void.
