State lacks tourism infrastructure: R V Deshpande

Opining that the state lacks adequate infrastructure facilities to attract more domestic and foreign tourists, Tourism Minister R V Deshpande said: “The state would seek more financial assistance from the Centre to improve the status.”

He told reporters here on Friday that during 2012-13 financial year, the Union Government did not release any developmental grants to the state to improve tourism infrastructure. During his recent Delhi visit, he had met Union Tourism Minister Chiranjeevi and submitted several proposals to augment infrastructure and to promote tourism in Karnataka, he said, adding: “The Union Minister has positively responded to our requests.”

Deshpande said: “There is an urgent need to connect Mysore-Belgaum-Gulbarga and Thorangal airports.”

Informing that an attempt is being made to showcase the tourism potential available in each districts, the Minister said that consultants had been appointed to present a report to the state government.
