A team of officials led by Sindhanur tahsildar Venkangouda seized 600 quintals of rice meant for Anna Bhagya scheme from a private godown in Sindhanur on Friday.
Following a tip-off, the officials rushed to the godown situated behind a weighbridge at Sripuram Junction where the rice was being loaded onto lorries and seized it.
Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies Gururaj told Express that the godown, where Anna Bhagya rice was stocked, was also seized.
The godown was leased out to Gunneshwar Rao, and the rice was brought from a fair price shop in Lingsugur. DC S N Nagaraju has instructed officials to book criminal cases against those involved in hoarding the rice.
