Karavali utsav starts at Dandeli

‘Karavali Utsav 2013’ of Uttara Kannda district started in a grand manner at the Delux Grounds in Dandeli, located in the midst of a thick forest range, on Sunday evening.

Around 8,000 people from Dandeli, Haliyal and Joida participated in the event. Tourism and Uttara Kannada District Minister R V Deshpande who inaugurated the Utsav, said apart from television, there is no other entertainment for people in Dandeli. The event has been organised to protect and promote regional culture and festivities and people should enjoy it, he added.

MLC SL Gotnekar said the State government would review the Karavali and Kali Utsavs, which were not held for the last five years due to political reasons.

A recital by noted singer Jasraj Joshi was the main attraction of the event.

Prizes were distributed to the winners of various sports and cultural events held in the district earlier this month.

Zilla Panchayat chief education officer Krishna Gowda, Haliyal tahsildar Sharadha Kolkar and Congress worker Prashanth Deshpande were present.

Tour Packages

Ahead of the Karvali Utsav to be celebrated in Karwar starting November 22, the Tourism Department announced special package tours for the visitors. It will be organised in association with the State Road Transport Corporation.
