The government on Monday said steps will be taken to create 43 new taluks announced by the previous BJP government.

Revenue Minister V Srinivas Prasad informed the Assembly that the government will create the new taluks in order to streamline the administration.

“Each new taluk needs approximately Rs 20 crore for infrastructure. Considering this, the government has decided to create new taluks in a phased manner,” he replied to a question of member Raju Alagur. He also clarified that there was no proposal to create any more taluks other than the 43 announced. However, former CM Jagadish Shettar accused the state government of not having political will to create the new taluks. “Of the proposed 43 taluks, 36 are in backward North-Karnataka region,” Shettar said.
