Some of the high profile candidates sweating it out to woo voters ahead of the April 17 polls won’t be able to vote for themselves in their own constituencies. The reason: they are registered as voters elsewhere.

Former chief ministers H D Kumaraswamy and D V Sadananda Gowda, former ministers Shobha Karandlaje and B T Lalitha Naik are some of those who are not contesting from the constituency in which they are registered as voters.

However, several other leaders and a few sitting MPs can vote in their constituency. They include H D Deve Gowda, Dharam Singh, Mallikarjuna Kharge, B S Yeddyurappa, M Veerappa Moily and A H Vishwanath.

Ramya, who contested the Lok Sabha byelection from Mandya in 2013, was a registered voter of Shantinagar Assembly segment in Bangalore. But, after winning the bypoll, she changed her address and now is a voter in Mandya constituency.

Sri Ram Sene chief Pramod Mutalik, who is contesting from Dharwad and Bangalore South, can vote in Dharwad.

D V Sadananda Gowda, who is contesting from Bangalore North, is a registered voter of Dakshina Kannada. “I will either take an early morning flight to Dakshina Kannada to vote and return to Bangalore by afternoon to check the status. Else, I will first check the arrangements made in Bangalore and then go to vote. But I will cast my vote for sure,” he said.

Geetha Shivarajkumar, who is contesting from Shimoga on a JD(S) ticket, is a voter in Bangalore North. She is likely to come to Bangalore to cast her vote.

These can vote in their constituency
