Despite ill-health, JD(S) leader M Srinivas showed up at a press meet here on the last day of election campaign, requesting people to vote for party candidate C S Puttaraju.
A tired-looking Srinivas, who was recently admitted to a Bangalore hospital due to high blood sugar level, was holding on to his party workers for support. This is the first time in this election that Srinivas has come out to campaign. After his controversial statement on Congress candidate Ramya’s paternity during the Mandya Lok Sabha byelection campaign, Srinivas had maintained silence as his comment was criticised by all parties, including JD(S) leaders.
Even JD(S) supremo and former prime minister H D Deve Gowda had lashed out at Srinivas. The JD(S) leaders had said his controversial statement was one of the reasons why Ramya defeated Putturaju in the byelection. Fearing that Srinivas may repeat the mistake, Deve Gowda barred him from making any speech during the campaign.
