Cousins Varun and Priyanka are fighting. Gandhi vs Gandhi. This is how it all began: Priyanka, sister of Rahul Gandhi and daughter of Sonia Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, said Varun Gandhi, son of uncle Sanjay Gandhi and aunty Maneka Gandhi, was a Gandhi who had “lost his way”. So many Gandhis at one go, your head is spinning? Phew! That’s an old problem in Indian politics. Varun came back and said he was a decent guy who had never crossed the Laxman rekha. (He had once announced he would like to chop off the hands of people who threatened his religion, but as the BJP will tell you, that doesn’t amount to crossing any Bangaru Laxman rekha). Priyanka then warned Varun this was no family tea party. Varun (34), who sports a classic middle parting, is the BJP candidate from Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh. Last time, when he contested from Haryana, he had promised to curb Western influence on Indian culture. Yes, sir. He may not know the difference between Kalidasa and khali dosa, but should Priyanka, who already has a problem child called Robert Vadra on her hands, try to discipline aunt Maneka’s brat?
