Experts from automaker Ashok Leyland on Saturday will visit the spot where a private bus coming from Davangere to Bangalore caught fire, claiming six lives.

The team is expected to find the cause of the fire that also left 23 injured. Investigating officer B M Suresh told Express: “Before submitting a detailed report on the cause of the mishap, a team comprising engine experts will visit the spot.”

Dismissing short circuit as the cause of the fire, he said an external fire led to the disaster. He said experts will analyse whether fire from inside caused the mishap or if it started raging after the bus came to a halt.

One Body Unclaimed

Of the six victims, DNA samples of five and their relatives have been sent to the forensic science laboratory in Bangalore for tests. Results are expected in a couple of days. However, one body remains unclaimed.

RTO H J Thembad said a woman from Kurke village (Davangere district) called him and enquired about the accident. She also said two of her sons were missing. She was directed to meet Hiriyur police for DNA sampling.
