Villagers on Sunday staged a protest on the national highway, protesting the desecration of Veera Madakari Nayaka’s portrait at Alagod village in T Narasipur taluk.
After the news spread like wildfire, Nayaka community leaders and youths protested in the neighbouring villages and blocked the road. The demonstrations threw traffic out of gear for hours.
The agitators resorted to flash protests in Yadadore, Indavalu, Madapura, Neelasoge, Kaliyur and Hosa Tirumakoodalu villages. District Congress Committee (ST wing) president Honna Nayaka condemned the incident. He also urged the government to prevent such incidents and take stern action against those who desecrated the portrait of the former king of Chitradurga.
Meanwhile, Nanjangud sub-division ASP M Nanjunda, circle inspector Mahesh Kumar and tahsildar Ramappa visited the spot. Villagers withdrew the protest after authorities promised action.
