cow.jpgA stray cow which seems to know the value of drinking water and ensures that it is not wasted is impressing people in the city.

Though it forages for food and rests by the roadside or under a tree like other stray cattle, it never drinks water from the pits or the gutters. Whenever it feels thirsty, it drinks the water supplied by the Belgaum City Corporation at one of the public taps, people say.

People of Narvekar Galli and surrounding areas claim to have noticed this cow opening the valve of the public tap for drinking water. More interesting, after drinking the water, they say it closes the valve by nudging it, ensuring that water is not wasted. Public taps at Narvekar Galli or the one in front of Samadevi Temple are the two preferred stops for this cow to quench its thirst, they say.

Interestingly, the cow was named ‘Devi’ by a mentally retarded person of the area a couple of years ago.
