We Lost a Family Member, Say Polo's Caretakers

“We have lost a family member. Polo remains in our hearts as a lovable and charming person,” caretakers Pandey, Ramesh and Girish said on Sunday.

Deeply mourning the death of Polo, the beloved male gorilla, the trio said they miss their companion a lot.

Recalling their journey with Polo, they said: “Polo was shy by nature and was not very comfortable with newcomers. However, he was affectionate towards us. If someone touched us in front of him, he would get angry, kick the food plate and sulk. He loved tea and egg the most”.

Pandey, Polo’s caretaker for over a decade, said: “Polo was like my younger son. When I had problems at home, I would forget all my worries on seeing Polo. I have had a lot of memorable times with Polo. Polo would understand my feelings easily and was very affectionate. The only difference between him and humans is that he couldn’t speak”. “I would address him by name and he would to rush towards me. He would follow all my instructions. His death has brought sorrow to me. It’s hard to get attached to any other animal,” added Pandey emotionally.
