Spurned Lover Attacks Girl With Sickle

A girl was assaulted with a sickle by a 25-year-old youth in full public view for turning down his proposal, near Raghavendraswamy mutt on Narayana Shastri road in the city on Monday.

A girl was assaulted with a sickle by a 25-year-old youth in full public view for turning down his proposal, near Raghavendraswamy mutt on Narayana Shastri road in the city on Monday.

The accused Sanna Swamy of Naganahalli in Mysore taluk, was a relative of the girl, a student of Marimalappa’s College. He was in love with her.

Swamy was infuriated when he came to know that her family was arranging her marriage and attacked her. People who were around came to the girl’s rescue. They beat up Swamy before handing him over to police. The injured girl was rushed to a hospital.

Gang-rape Victim Deposes

Udupi: The Manipal University Gang-rape victim deposed before the District and Sessions Court judge in-camera in Udupi on Monday.

Three autorickshaw drivers had abducted the student on June 20 and allegedly raped her after taking her to a remote place.

As many as 24 witnesses had deposed before the court and the victim was the main witness. Though initially, she was asked to depose before the court on January 20,  she was excused from appearing as she had exams.  ENS
