At least eight people, including a head constable, sustained serious injuries in a group clash at Tekkalakote here on Monday night.
Police said trouble started when some youths protested the ‘denial of a chance’ to children of a particular community to perform at Chinnara Habba hosted at a private school. They also took exception to only Hindi songs being played at the programme, leading to a verbal duel with another group.
According to police, a two-wheeler was set on fire and a mini-truck was smashed with stones. Head constable Jagadish was attacked by the mob when he arrived at the spot.
As many as 53 people were arrested in connection with the incident and prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC were imposed in the locality to control the situation. Additional police force was also deployed.
