The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) will invite All India Congress Committee (AICC) Vice-President Rahul Gandhi to contest from Belgaum in the Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing a public gathering at Uchagoan village in Belgaum taluk on Sunday, KPCC president G Parameshwaraa said the party has a stronghold in the State.
He claimed that the love and affection of the people of the state towards the Gandhi family has remained intact. “Indira Gandhi won a by-election from Chickmagalur and AICC president Sonia Gandhi from Bellary LS constituency. The party will invite Rahul Gandhi and will work for his victory if contests either from Belgaum or any other constituency of the state,” he said.
People of Belgaum will never forget the AICC convention held in Belgaum in 1924 presided by Mahatma Gandhi, Parameshwara said.He said though many had applied to contest from the party, the list of winnable candidates has been submitted to the high command.
