Karnataka Government Can't Suggest Names For SIT, Says Lokayukta
Lokayukta Justice Y Bhaskar Rao on Thursday said no names suggested by the government or any other persons will be considered for any of the posts in the SIT (special investigation team) formed to probe illegal mining cases.
“Lokayukta is an autonomous institution. We will be sending the names of the officers to be appointed for the SIT by February 20. The state government must follow Supreme Court directions in illegal mining probe,” Justice Rao told reporters. The state government order constituting the SIT has reached the Lokayukta office. “We will soon send proposed officers for various posts in the SIT, he said. The SIT may be set up at a building near Agricultural University on Bellary Road. He further said that he has written in this regard to Governor H R Bhardwaj, Chief Secretary Kaushik Mukherjee and Vice-Chancellor K Narayana Gowda.
He also said that after repeated communication over pending prosecution sanction orders (PSO), the government has cleared 12 orders.
However, 82 PSO requests are still pending with different competent authorities in the government. Out of 24 PSOs, pending since more than one year, the government has cleared only one case.
He also said that the MLAs, who were sent notices for failing to submit their assets and liabilities, have submitted returns.
