GULBARGA: Teachers of any science subject can now teach environment science to undergraduate students in case of shortage of teaching faculty.

This was decided by the academic council of the Gulbarga University on Monday. To teach environment science one needs an MA degree in the subject.

Vice-chancellor E T Puttaiah said the university has received complaints regarding scarcity of environmental science professors who can teach effectively. In some colleges, Economics or other social science faculty are teaching environmental science.

“As the Supreme Court has made it mandatory to teach environmental science in all under graduation courses, the university has to take it seriously.

Hence, in case of non -availability of environmental science professors, faculty from Science and Technology having a background in environmental science may be employed,” Puttaiah  said.
