Cops Acting Tough: Home Minister

Home Minister K J George on Thursday said the police are not hesitant to take complaints from victims of assault.

BANGALORE: Home Minister K J George on Thursday said the police are not hesitant to take complaints from victims of assault.

Citing the numerous instances of rape or sexual assault in the city in the recent days, the minister said people are coming out to file complaints.

“We will support those showing the courage to file complaints by acting tough against the accused,” the minister said.

George said Pulikeshinagar police inspector Mohammad Rafiq would be charged under Section 166(A) for dereliction of duty.

He pointed out that the issue was not the police refusing to register a case but they were trying to tone down the nature of complaint.

“The police filed the complaint under wrong sections. Action has been taken and the complaint has also been modified,” he said.

On the Vibgyor school incident, George said the police would investigate why the school tried to hush up the case.

“The police will look into all the angles and action will be initiated against all those involved,” he added.
