Hemavathi Water Released to TN

Farmers have expressed anguish at the state government for releasing water from Hemavathi reservoir to Tamil Nadu.

HASSAN: Farmers have expressed anguish at the state government for releasing water from Hemavathi reservoir to Tamil Nadu.

Engineers at Hemavathi dam have been releasing 6,000 cusecs of water from the reservoir since Thursday. The storage level was 33 feet short of the maximum level on Friday. The farmers warned the dam authorities of intensifying their agitation if they do not stop releasing water to the neighbouring state. The outflow on Wednesday was 250 cusecs and it was increased to 6,000 cusecs on Thursday following a direction from the government.

The water level on Thursday stood at 2,889 ft against the maximum 2,922 ft.

The reservoir has 12.232 tmc ft of water against the capacity of 37.102 tmc ft.   

On Friday, the inflow was 16,000 cusecs.
