CHITRADURGA: Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council K S Eshwarappa criticised the Siddaramaiah government for its negligence in protecting the language and culture of the state.

At a press conference here on Sunday, he said Kannada, Karnataka and the culture of the country had been totally neglected by the government, and it was the BJP which took the government to task, due to which Kannadigas in Goa were protected.

“Because of BJP’s pressure, the state government held discussions with the Goa government and tried to resolve the problems. If not, the situation of those people would have been much worse,” he said.

In a similar way, the Yellur village board issue was raised at Belgaum due to the pressure put by the BJP. If the same situation continues, our people in the Belgaum district will be harassed. The state government should protect its territory and the BJP is ready to lend any  help needed for this purpose, he said.

The Siddaramaiah government is involved in factional fight and nepotism which has resulted in poor governance. Opponents are making the best of the situation and trying to redraw the state’s borders, said Eshwarappa. He said the BJP will not play politics on the issue, as it strongly believes in protecting the intersts of Kannadigas.

Eshwarappa assured of holding talks with the Goa government led by Manohar Parrikar, and also with the Centre, over protection to Kannadigas outside the state.
