Mandya/Bangalore: Housing Minister M H Ambareesh said water from Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) reservoir will be released to all canals from Thursday.
At the KRS reservoir’s Irrigation Consultative Committee (ICC) meeting held at his office in Vidhana Soudha on Wednesday, Ambareesh said from Sunday, water will be released stage-by-stage to Hulikere tunnel to supply water to Mandya, Maddur and Malavalli region.
Ambareesh said release of water will be discontinued to Virija and Ramaswamy canal from January to June for modernisation works. The 86.5 km Ramaswamy canal supplies water to Malavalli and T Narasipur taluks.
The estimated cost of the modernisation work is `80 crore and it has been approved. Similarly, the modernisation work of the 93.6 km Viraja canal is estimated to around `83 crore, he added.
Ambareesh said modernisation work of the Chikkadevaraya service canal would also be taken up. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has called a meeting in this regard on August 6.
