Two migrant labourers employed at Nelligudde quarry in Ikala village near Kinnigoli were killed in an explosion on Sunday forenoon.
The completely disfigured bodies have been identified as Erichamma (55) and her son Paraman Uthandy (25) from Konagapady, Salem district in Tamil Nadu. Three members Nagaraj from Shivmogga, his wife Yashoda (28) and daughter Pooja (10) staying close to the shed in quarry pit escaped with minor injuries.
Due to the impact of the explosion, the roof of the shed was blown off and the two rooms were completely destroyed. Six sheds have been damaged. Hundreds of labourers working in quarry pits reside in about 50 temporary sheds with plastic serving as the roof.
