Rogue Elephant Kills Another Farmer

The rogue elephant that was separated from its herd continued its rampage killing another farmer in Gubbi taluk on Thursday.

Rangaiah (61) of Hunsaiahnapalya village in Hagalavadi hobli was attacked by the tusker while he was working in his farm. He died on the spot.

The villagers alleged that forest officials were not taking any steps to drive away the elephants which have been in the district for several months.

Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) M V Amaranath gave a cheque of `2 lakh to the kin of the deceased and promised `3 lakh more.  MLA S R Srinivas visited the spot.

The elephant had attacked a forest official a couple of days ago and he sustained a fracture.

Last month it had killed a farmer at Guluru.

Jumbos in Hassan

A herd of three wild elephants damaged standing crops, including banana in parts of Igur and Hanbal in Sakleshpur taluk on Friday.
