DHARWAD: An alleged child marriage, scheduled at Karadikoppa village in Hubli taluk, was stopped on Sunday.
According to the KIDS organisation in Dharwad, Fathima, a 16-year-old daughter of Rajesab Dodmani was to be married to Khalandarsab Mahammedsab Maligatti of Venkatyapur village in Haveri district.
On receipt of this information, Hubli Rural Child Development Planning Officer Masamaddi, KIDS worker Ramesh Kittur, along with the BDSS and police personnel, reached the venue and succeeded in persuading the bride’s parents.
They also took an undertaking from Fatima’s parents that she will not be married till she turns 18, the police said.
