GULBARGA: The state police have intensified their investigation in finding the groups behind the planted explosives on a railway track at Malakhed of Sedam taluk and Moghla thanda of Chittapur taluk on May 10.

Highly-placed sources in the police department told Express that prima-facie it was found that the planting of explosives on the railway track was not accidental but intentional as part of a sabotage bid.

It was foiled by a key-man of the railway department Tulajaram.

The sources ruled out the possibility of the explosives  (gelatin sticks and other materials) accidentally falling from a goods train.

Different police teams, especially the internal security wing under the leadership of officers of the rank of DySP have been already dispatched to Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh to find out whether there were any similar efforts of sabotage by any groups in those states.

All teams have been provided with sketches of the suspects on the basis of details provided by Tulajaram to help the investigating teams trace the accused if their photos were available in the police records of those states.

The teams are also examining the possibility of Naxalite involvement in the incident.

The investigation may take more time, sources said. This is the first time in Karnataka that explosives connected to battery were found on a railway track.

The investigation is being supervised by Additional Director General of Police of Internal Security wing Amarkumar Pande supported by the railway safety wing and the police of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand.
