HUBLI: Two high school students were found dead on the tracks near Ashoknagar railway gate on Sunday night.

Swaroop Prakash Rokhade (15) and Nihal Ashwin Mithare (14) were students of Chinmaya School here. They had passed 9th and 8th standard respectively with over 90 per cent marks.

The police are unable to ascertain if it was a case of suicide or an accident as both the students reportedly had no problems either at home or outside.

While Swaroop’s father is a contractor, Nihal’s father works with a bank.

According to the Railway police, the students had gone for a walk after dinner on Sunday evening.

When they failed to return home even after 10.30 pm, their parents got worried and searched for them in places they used to frequent. They also contacted the friends of the boys.

Later, they approached the Ashoknagar police station. The night beat constables found two motor bikes parked near the Deshpande Nagar overbridge. In the search that followed, they found two bodies lying on the tracks.

The police handed over the bodies to the family members after post-mortem at Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS).

The Railway police sources said the actual reason for the deaths can be known only after getting the post-mortem reports.

“Nihal was a very silent boy. He had no bad habits nor any enemies. We are all shocked,” said a relative.
