TUMKUR :  Irregularities in the UPA government’s ambitious MNREGA have led to notices being issued to hundreds of officials in the district.

Out of the ten taluks except Gubbi and Turuvekere, the notices are being served to all executive officers of Taluk Panchayats seeking their clarification over irregularities such as fake job cards, claiming bills twice for the same works, mismatch of job card holders’ signature with that of those who had claimed the wages among others.

It may be noted here that the EO of Koratagere, TP Manjunath has been suspended from the service in connection with the `10 crore scam in the MNREGA.

The social auditing teams have been paying visits to the gram panchayats and examining the accounts.

About 250 officials including engineers, officers from different departments, the Panchayat Development Officers were among those who were served the notices.

Zilla Panchayat CEO Govindaraju clarified that the social auditing has exposed irregularities and raised many objections.

“Notices were issued based on the documents of irregularities.

Action will follow shortly. Though the MNREGA is full of irregularities there is progress in several development works which cannot be ruled out,” he remarked.
