Man Conned of Rs 17 L in Hubli

HUBLI: A man was duped of `17 lakh for a medical seat for his daughter.

According to police, Sushil, an impostor, had called Nayam Jayapalreddy of Belgaum on September 20 and assured him of a medical seat for his daughter in a college in Dharwad. He asked Jayapalreddy to come to Dharward with some cash and a DD  for `3.5 lakh drawn in favour of the college.

When Jayapalreddy reached Dharwad on Tuesday, two unidentified men took him to the college. They went inside the office and asked him to wait outside. Later, they returned and told Jayapalreddy that the medical seat was confirmed.

They collected a bag containing `17 lakh from him and drove away assuring him that they would return. The duo did not return and their mobile phones were switched off.
