BANGALORE: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will lay the foundation stone for a memorial for the late Kannada actor Vishnuvardhan, coming up on a two-acre plot opposite Abhiman Studio in the city, on November 6.

The state government has earmarked around Rs 11 crore for the project.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Siddaramaiah on Monday. Family members of Vishnuvardhan, Information Minister

R Roshan Baig, office-bearers of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) and officials of the Information Department participated in the meeting.

The blueprint for the memorial has been finalised after approval from the actor’s family.

Sources said the memorial will include a statue of Vishnuvardhan, a meditation hall and a garden.

According to an earlier plan, the memorial was to come up on the Abhiman Studio premises. But this idea had to be scrapped as the land in question which belonged to the late Kannada actor Balakrishna and is mired in a legal battle between his children.

The memorial will now come up on government land opposite the studio.
