BENGALURU: Unperturbed by the criticism the state government’s flagship programme Anna Bhagya is earning from different quarters, Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya said on Monday the government will not scrap the scheme under any circumstances.
“There is no question of discontinuing the scheme. In fact, there will be more such schemes in the coming days,” Anjaneya said.
He was reacting to writer S L Bhyrappa’s remark that the scheme is making the beneficiaries lazy. “These schemes have helped the poor, particularly students,” he added. He claimed that the scheme was even being replicated in some states. “But some people are raising voices against it. They are all anti-poor,” Anjaneya said. CM Siddaramaiah had also criticised Bhyrappa over the remarks on Sunday.
JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy took objection to Siddaramaiah and his colleagues taking offence to the criticism. “People are only suggesting the government provide them with employment instead of free food grains,” he said.
