BENGALURU: The state government, which had recently formulated the Child Protection Policy-2015 to ensure safe environment for students in schools, plans to give it legal sanctity for its effective implementation, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Kimmane Ratnakar said.
After a cabinet sub-committee meeting on the Child Protection Policy here on Tuesday, Ratnakar said a decision was taken to give legal framework to the policy.
Maintaining that the policy guidelines, which are already in place, cannot be effective unless it has legal framework, he said, “We are yet to decide as to which law the existing guidelines have to be tagged with.”
The committee also discussed about adding new features to the existing guidelines to ensure “safe school environment for children,” the minister said.
It may be recalled that the cabinet, which had gone through the policy recently, had advised the cabinet sub-committee to discuss the issue once again and fine-tune it before finalising it.
The policy makes it mandatory for all schools, including government, aided, unaided and those coming under CBSE, ICSE and other Boards, to set up a child protection committee with adequate manpower.
