Woman Rescued from Decade-long Confinement

TUMAKURU:State Women’s Commission chairman Manjula Manasa has rescued a woman who was allegedly confined in a house for over a decade at Thimmanahalli village in Chikkanayakanahalli taluk in the district.

Incidentally, Law Minister T B Jayachandra hails from the same village.

Following a media report, Manjula visited the house and brought 33-year-old Lathashree outside for the first time in 10 years.

She directed Nanje Gowda, Deputy Director of Women and Child Welfare Department, to ensure that the victim undergoes counselling. In 2003, the woman got engaged to a man, but it was called off.

Her guardians did not try to find any other match for her. She had lost her mother during childhood and her stepmother Annapoorna had allegedly kept her in confinement. The woman was weak in health. Officials said action will be taken against her guardians.
