BENGALURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday said the state government is mulling introduction of yoga as a subject in schools and colleges. He added that around 12,000 yoga teachers are being trained by the Department of AYUSH.
Speaking at a Vidhana Soudha programme to celebrate International Day of Yoga, Siddaramaiah said, “It has been established the practising yoga on a regular basis leads to positive changes. Keeping these health benefits in mind, we are mulling introducing yoga in school curriculum. Teachers are already being trained for this purpose,” he said.
Siddaramaiah also paid homage to yoga greats from the state. “We have had many yoga exponents from the state including B K S Iyengar, Pattabhi Jois and Krishnamachari. We are also the only state in the country to have a Yoga and Naturopathy University. Today, the Department of AYUSH has ensured that this occasion was celebrated in every district,” he added. Union minister Ananth Kumar, health minister U T Khader and others were present.
