BENGALURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday said a Rs 29.20 crore proposal to upgrade infrastructure at Lalbagh Botanical Gardens was being examined by the State government.

Accompanied by Bengaluru Urban district in-charge Minister Ramalinga Reddy and Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, the CM went on a buggy inspecting the gardens.

Environmentalist Dr Yellappa Reddy met him and spoke about the requirements for Lalbagh. Reddy also impressed upon the chief minister the need to increase the entry fee at Lalbagh from Rs 10 to Rs 20.

Reddy said an Anthurium house, photo gallery, water treatment plant, upgraded gates, improved access roads and walking paths were needed.

The first stop on the Chief Minister’s city rounds was Freedom Park where he inspected the space allotted for a multi-level cellar parking, expected to cost Rs 79.81 crore.

Water for Houses

Responding to grievances of residents of Janaki Raman Nagar in Lingarajapuram, the CM said steps would be taken to provide water, drainage and electricity connections to all the 647 quarters within 10 days.

The CM also visited a Saibaba temple at Kacharakanahalli lake bed area spanning 57 acres. Two temples and a choultry have come up on four acres of land and the Bangalore Development Authority has also formed a layout on 20 acres.

“There is a proposal to build educational institutions, hospitals, dhobi ghats, etc., on the remaining land but since it is on a lake bed, we have sent it to the cabinet for clearance,” he said.

Heritage Tag: Siddaramaiah also visited M M Dispensary in Pulakeshi Nagar. Residents and doctors appealed for a new building. “The building was constructed in 1909 and is 106 years old. We need to assess if it can be declared a heritage site under the Monuments Act,” he said.

The Chief Minister assured residents in Banaswadi that houses built in an unauthorised manner would not be demolished. “The residents were very worried and I reassured them that only unauthorised commercial complexes will be removed,” he told reporters.
