BENGALURU: The High Court on Saturday declined to stay the Rajyotsava Award ceremony scheduled to be held on Sunday. Hearing the petition challenging the list of awardees, Justice Anand Byrareddy issued notice to the state government and the selection committee for Rajyotsava Awards but refused to stay the ceremony.
However, the judge directed Additional Advocate General A S Ponnanna to file objections to the petition. Poet and writer B V Satyanarayana Rao challenged the list of awardees as his name was dropped from it.
Advocate Shankarappa, representing Rao, argued that his client had written and published about 70 books in Kannada and Sanskrit. The selection committee ignored his name for the award for the year 2015, despite he being a deserving person.
