Fight Over Credit After Movie Bags Award

BENGALURU: The announcement of the State film awards for 2013 on Sunday saw a twist with two people - ‘Mynaa’ director Nagashekar and Manjunath Sanjeev - claiming to have written the dialogues for the film.

Giving his side of the story, Nagashekar said, “Manjunath Sanjeev is a good friend of mine. But I never expected he will create a controversy for the sake of an award. The mistake I did was that though I wrote the dialogues, I gave credit to him in the film because he could get some money as he needed it at that time. Today, I am facing the consequence.

“The whole film crew is aware that I wrote the dialogues. If he is hell bent, let him produce the file containing the movie dialogues and even I will do the same. We’ll then know who wrote the dialogues,” he said.

Nagashekar has also directed popular films like ‘Aramane’ and ‘Sanju Weds Geetha’. “I was expecting a state award for my film, which I didn’t get. But I didn’t lobby for it. I have received 22 awards for the film ‘Mynaa’ for ‘best director’ and ‘best film’. If he really wants this award, I will voluntarily give it to him. Let the award go to the person who is eligible and deserves it. What has hurt me is that my friend, instead of feeling happy for me, is creating a controversy,” Nagashekar said.
