TUMAKURU: A 70-year-old man allegedly raped a four-year-old girl in Tiptur town on Sunday afternoon.
Syed Mehmood had taken the child to his home while she was playing on the streets and allegedly raped her. His son and daughter-in-law were out for some work.
The girl returned home crying and complained to her mother, who in turn informed her husband on Monday morning as he was away on Sunday.
Meanwhile, some youths allegedly tried to attack the accused. PSI Sathyanarayana and members of the child protection committee visited the spot.
During interrogation, the accused admitted to molesting the girl but denied having raped her. The girl was taken to the district general hospital for medical tests. The accused has been remanded in judicial custody.
