MANGALURU: Sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan (in picture) will be honoured with Alva’s Virasath Award during the Alva’s Virasath-2015 on Thursday.
The function will be organised at Alva’s Palace ground at Vidyagiri inatMoodbidri, Alva’s Education Foundation Chairman M Mohan Alva said on Monday. He told reporters during a press meet at Patrika Bhavan that Khan was selected for the award for his contribution to music.
Khan was attracted to the world of music at the age of six and has since played sarod, a rare instrument, he added. Alva said the 21st Alva’s Virasath will be a four-day programme starting and the venue has been changed to a hill top in Vidyagiri campus where more than 20,000 people can be seated. The venue also has spacious car parking facility, he added.
Varna Virasath Award
The annual Varna Virasath award will be awarded to Hyderabad-based artist Thota Vaikuntam in recognition of his contribution to the field of art on Saturday.
On the same day, Mysore Manjunath (violin), Vidwan Shashank (flute) and others will present ‘Nada Loka’ music concert.
Visitors will have free transportation facility (to and fro) from Nishmitha Towers in Moodbidri to the programme venue.
