Complaint Against UoM Professor

MYSURU: A police complaint has been registered against University of Mysore (UoM) journalism faculty Prof Maheshchandra Guru for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Lord Rama.

In a complaint lodged at Jayalakshmipuram police station, Karunadu Sarvodaya Sene president C V Ravishankar said Prof Guru had abused Lord Rama while delivering a lecture at a refresher course for faculty at University of Mysore’s UGC-Academic Staff College recently.

Appaji Gowda, one of the participants of the refresher course, had lodged a complaint with the Academic Staff College director, seeking disciplinary action against Prof Guru.

Based on this, Ravishankar has filed a police complaint.

Prof Guru had replaced retired university faculty Prof R Indira, who was supposed to deliver the lecture on that day.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajanna said they have registered a complaint against Prof Guru under IPC Section 295 (A) for hurting religious sentiments, and are investigating.

However, Prof Guru denied the allegation that he abused Lord Rama.

“I only said that Rama had violated human rights. There is a conspiracy behind the complaint against me by Appaji Gowda,” he added.
