Bhyrappa is National Research Professor

MYSURU: Novelist and Saraswati Samman awardee S L Bhyrappa has been appointed National Research Professor for five years, according to a notification issued by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development.

Bhyrappa received the communication two days ago, a press release from his Personal Secretary Veena  K S, said.

Honorarium and Perks

The appointment, which carries an honorarium of Rs 75,000 per month, can be extended for five more years. After the completion of the term, he is eligible for a lifetime pension of Rs 25,000 per month.

The honorarium and pension paid to him are exempted from income tax. In addition to honorarium,Rs1 lakh per annum is given for meeting his expenses.

The selection for appointment of National Research Professors is made by a committee consisting of the Prime Minister, Minister of Human Resource Development, Home Minister and Finance Minister.

No specific duties and responsibilities have been assigned to National Research Professors.

They are free to continue their research work in their own fields at the university or institution of their choice.
