Merchant Robbed of Rs10 lakh

HUBBALLI: Two burglars on a motorbike robbed a rice merchant of `10 lakh in Deshpande Nagar in broad daylight on Thursday.

According to sources in the suburban police station, Shrikant Muktineni of Vivekanand Nagar was heading towards his car after drawing `10 lakh from a private bank in Deshpande Nagar when a motorbike bumped into his car.

When Shrikant got down to see what had happened, the bike rider and pillion got into an argument with him. At that same time, two miscreants who came on another bike smashed the car window and took away the bag with the cash.

The other two who had bumped into his car also fled the scene.
